Welcome to Vinyasa Tango with David Sasha Tonn and Tatiana Smirnova
What is Vinyasatango exactly? Vinyasa Tango is founded around the belief that Hatha and Vinyasa yoga when done regularly will dramatically increase your ability to also learn the Argentine Tango. As serious practitioners of both yoga and tango you can enjoy either of our classes or mix the two synergistically as we love to do...
Aerial Vinyasa Tango - We are now taking tango and yoga safely into the air! David is now certified in Dana Aerial Yoga and is incorporating its methodology and benefits into his tango and floor Vinyasa classes. This new kind of yoga allows for a deeper understanding of ones axis as it relates to tango. The support of the hammock encourages you to safely play with your weight and will help you to increase your flexibility, strength and also improve your sense of tango equilibrium (boleos, ganchos, off axis colgadas and volcadas, lifts and suspensions will all improve)
We offer Private and Group Tango and Yoga classes in the Geneva, Lausanne and Basel regions

Tango Teaching Philosophy and CV
"Using a center-focused lead and follower connection with grounded body positions while listening internally to one another is what we emphasize for the open and close embraces. Using the leverage of the floor and your pelvic muscles for specific weight changes will allow for a dissociative and flexible spiral movement for the entire body. Your embrace will be relaxed and yet active in the shoulders and arms without having to push and pull with your partner. "Nuevo" and "traditional" tango ideas are explorations of these fundamentals of body mechanics and awareness. Dynamic musicality grows out of solid technique and body awareness coupled with a deep connection with your partners."
David is intense and yet playful as a performer and teacher. He loves to share his enthusiasm for both flexible technique and improvisation with his students. As a dancer he is respected for his relaxed physical connection to his partners and his musical creativity. As a tango teacher he is unique in his ability to communicate specific physical concepts to quickly enable his students to progress. His degrees in Literature and Biology from Columbia College in New York City created a strong analytical mind. His life long studies of various instruments and types of movement make him very physically and musically aware.
Some of his tango influences and teachers (both technically and artistically) over the past ten years include: Chicho Frumboli with Lucia, Eugenia and Juana, Sebastian y Mariana, Gaston and Moira, Pablo and Dana, Ezequiel Farfaro and a strong foundation with the traditional styles of the Pugliese and Balmaceda families. He has taught and performed with a number of respected followers in the US, Canada, Europe, Africa and Argentina including: Tatiana Smirnova, Mariana Dragone, Mariana Galassi, Rachel Greenberg, Karina Romero, and Nina Tatarowicz.
Tatiana’s creativity started to develop from her childhood in Moscow. She was enrolled in an Olympic training program studying with a master of Russian rhythmic gymnastics and ballet. She also studied classical piano from a very early age. After leaving Moscow she continued her studies of movement and music until this day including jazz and tango piano as well as ballet, ballroom and modern dance basics. She furthered her knowledge of the human body with intense study in the arts of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and yoga. When she arrived to New York to pursue her graduate studies in biomedical research, she discovered her passion for Argentine tango. She has studied with such tango masters as Mariela Sametband, Moira Castellano, Gaston Torelli, Dana Frigoli, Ezequiel Farfaro, Murat and Michelle Erdemsel.
Yoga Teaching Philosophy and CV
Vinyasa (flow) classes will have an extended warmup where we connect deeply to our breath and wake up the body gently and then will move into a smooth and challenging asana series. The entire body will be opened up for increased strength, flexibility and balance. Each class will have different parts of the body emphasized to challenge those areas and to open ourselves to getting past any perceived limits. This can have a direct impact on other areas of your life. We use the breath (pranayama) and asana (physical positions) to allow you to discover this non-physical awareness (psychological, emotional, spiritual) for yourself. Also trained and available to teach restorative yoga, partner yoga, pre and postal yoga, pranayama and meditation classes. Now certified (2016) in Dana Aerial Yoga and teaching both group and private classes in English and German in the Basel area.

David encourages his students to go beyond their perceived limits. Two of his yoga mentors, Isaac Pena and Jude English, created Sankalpah Yoga in New York City where he completed their unique 200 hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training. Thereafter, he taught his own classes and specialized partner yoga workshops around the US and then internationally. He has been exposed to the major yoga asana practices of Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Iyengar and the martial arts of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do. He also brings twelve years of teaching and performing Argentine Tango around the globe into his practice - constantly exploring how to help others connect deeply not only to themselves but to their partners. Years of travel and study have opened up a strong spiritual connection to the energies that we all possess and can share - to become more free.
